The annual fundraising banquet for Solace Charities was held at the Community Center in Sunnyvale, Calif. Solace is a Thrissur based organization that has been working for years to provide comfort to sick children and their parents who are constantly struggling to care for them. Solace was founded by public servant Sheeba Amir and is the current secretary. Solace Charities is a group of people helping Solace from America

Dr. Anil Neelakandan delivered the keynote lecture on ‘Social Implications of Chronic Illness’. Agnel Cockat presented the budget and future programs of Solace Charities. Treasurer Supriya Viswanathan Solace explained the ways in which funding can be channeled. Experiences of fundraising for Solas were shared at the function.

The main attraction of the banquet was the Kerala food prepared by the volunteers. Kappa worm, salmon curry, appam, vegetable stew, chicken curry and aripayasam were served at the banquet.

Representatives of major Malayali organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area, Women’s President Annie Pathiparampil, MANGA President Sreejith Sambodi, and Silicon Valley Lions Club Governor James Varghese handed over donations and spoke to Solas at the event.

Uma’s Bharatanatyam, Bhairavi Nedungadi’s Mohiniyattam, Songs by Amala Thekanath, Sudesh Phudhuwal, Femi Prasheed, Ranjini Rajeev, Alap Raag etc. were also performed at the banquet. The program ended with a stand-up called “Laugh When You Fail” by Vinod Narayan (Ballatha Pahayan). San Francisco Bay Area Chapter President Roy Jose expressed his gratitude.
